Questions before you paddle
The answers guests ask for most. Anything else, call or text Winfield directly at (808) 326-4699.
Before you book
Do I need kayaking experience?
No. First-time paddlers are welcome. Your guide teaches the basics before launch, keeps the group together and helps you feel comfortable from launch to landing. You just need to be able to follow safety instructions.
What ages can join?
Both tours welcome guests ages 5 and up. The live booking calendar always has the latest details.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes: 250 lbs per person. Our tandem kayaks are rated for 500 lbs total. If you’re over 250 lbs, go ahead and book, then give us a call before your tour date and we’ll work out the right setup for you.
Can I join if I’m pregnant?
Yes, pregnant guests are welcome. The pace is relaxed, but if you have any concerns, check with your doctor before your tour.
Which tours do you offer right now?
The Keauhou Sea Cave Kayak Tour (9:00 a.m.) and the early-morning Dolphin Riser Kayak Tour (7:00 a.m.). Both are guided, small-group tours from Keauhou Bay.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before your tour starts for a full refund. If we have to cancel because of weather, ocean conditions or another issue on our end, such as staffing or an emergency, you choose a full refund or another day.
The day of your tour
Where do we meet?
At the Keauhou Bay boat ramp, right next to the big white SeaQuest building. Look for the big trailer full of kayaks. That’s us.
What time should I arrive?
Check in 15 minutes before your tour: 8:45 a.m. for the Sea Cave Tour, 6:45 a.m. for the Dolphin Riser. Your guide is there setting up about 30 minutes before start time, so you’re welcome to come any time after that.
Where do we park?
There’s no parking lot, but there’s street parking along Kaleiopapa Street, the road that leads down to the boat ramp. Park along the road and walk down. With a big group or little kids, drop everyone off at the ramp first, then have the driver park and walk down.
Are there restrooms?
Yes, at the Keauhou Bay boat ramp. Use them before check-in, since there aren’t any once we’re on the water.
What should I bring?
Wear clothes you’re comfortable getting wet in, and bring reef-safe sunscreen (mineral, without oxybenzone or octinoxate), a hat and sunglasses. We provide water. Anything that comes out on the kayak can get soaked, so leave valuables in our locked Jeep or your car.
Do you provide snorkel gear?
Yes, on the Sea Cave Tour. Every guest gets a one-size-fits-most mask and snorkel, and we have kid sizes too. If you own a mask that fits you well, bring it.
Is there somewhere to keep keys, wallets and phones?
Yes. Our locked Jeep is the locker. Anything that goes out on the kayaks can get drenched or lost to the ocean, so leave valuables in the Jeep.
Can I bring my phone or a GoPro?
Yes, at your own risk. Anything on the kayak can get soaked or end up in the ocean. We highly recommend a waterproof, floating phone case (about $10 at the Kona Walmart) and a floating grip or wrist strap for a GoPro.
Good to know
Will we definitely see dolphins?
Wildlife is wild, so sightings are never guaranteed. Keep an eye out for dolphins on either tour, and from December through March, humpback whales too.
What happens if the ocean is rough?
Safety comes first. Your guide may change the route or skip the cave. If conditions aren’t safe to go out at all, we cancel and you choose a full refund or another day.
Do you rent kayaks?
Not yet. Self-guided rentals are coming, but for now we offer guided tours only.
Do you offer stand-up paddleboard (SUP) tours?
Not right now. We’re focused on our guided kayak tours.
